IKEA Madness

How INSANE is this: For two days prior to the first IKEA store opening in the Cincinnati area, people literally slept outside the store waiting for the grand opening. For TWO DAYS.

IKEA's cool and all, don't get me wrong, but I would be interested to find out what the Swedes think of this...

(hint to Andrew and Lena for responses)

Well, what shall I say. I like IKEA. Furniture there is affordable and functional, and since they also sell cheap candles, toilet cleaners and napkins you never leave the store without a little something.
It's also a little bit of an adventure going there - you can do a of lot "spot- the-disaster" games. How many crying kids do you see during one visit? How many crying parents? How many engagement rings come flying through the air from arguing couples?
But since my closest IKEA is 15 minutes away, and there are about four more if I am willing to drive for 45 minutes - no, I wouldn't spend two days in line in order to get in.
Especially not since you often have to spend a good deal of time standing in line to get out with your candles and napkins.

The nearest store other than the new one is in Chicago. Bit of a drive.
I think I'll wait a few more weeks for the madness to calm down before going.

Well, I guess Andrew isn't actually a Swede technically yet, so he doesn't need to respond.

I think he's not doing a great job reading the tonninsweden blog right now. I'm waiting for him to notice that we're talking about him, and hopefully he'll feel a little bad... hihi.

I'm sure there is something we could say that would get his attention... :) Um, this could be too much fun and malicious.

Who wouldn't lie around in the snow for the chance to be the first to buy a modular bookcase. I mean, here we are in America without any access to bookcases or napkins but Gosh, now that Obama is President, I am sure he will bring socialism, universal health care and affordable, cleverly designed furniture to this savage land.
